Francis Drake
This week my dear adventurers is the turn of FRANCIS DRAKE. Hero in England, and scourge of Spain, Sir Francis Drake was probably the most powerful and resourceful pirate in history.
No wonder, at the end of his career he only responded to Charles Howard or Queen Elizabeth I of England in person, who appointed him as knight.
Drake was no ordinary pirate, but a skilful navigator who used to attack Spanish settlements and galleons filled with gold. The Spanish crown even offered a great reward for anyone who captured or killed Francis Drake, which would amount to about $ 6 million today.
Beyond its bad reputation, it should be
noted that Drake is known as the first Englishman to circumnavigate the globe
in 1580, and that the passage with the world's most stormy waters bears his
name (which Spain and Argentina mention in another way).
